MONTREAL MAINE & ATLANTIC RAILWAY
Case Highlights
- Obtained debtor-in-possession financing
- Kept money losing railroad network in full service during the worst winter in recent history while conducting a successful sale process
Case Narrative
DSI was appointed the financial advisor to the Chapter 11 Trustee of the Montreal Maine & Atlantic Railway in August 2013 after a catastrophic accident killed 47 individuals and severed its major east-west line between Maine and Montreal.
Despite a revenue decline of 70%, DSI was instrumental in stabilizing the operations thru dramatic cost reductions and obtaining DIP financing, which enabled the Railway to continue full service to its geographically dependent customers. DSI developed the financial and operational data room and lead the management presentations that accumulated in the successful sale of the Railway in May 2014. DSI continues to support the Chapter 11 Trustee in his efforts to “channel” $2 billion of damage claims related to this accident and file a Liquidating Plan.
