Case Narrative

National Refractories and Minerals Corporation (NRMC) along with its affiliates, Chicago Fire Brick Company, Wellsville Fire Brick Company and National Affiliated Technologies, Inc., was a large manufacturer of heat-resistant brick used in the steel, glass, cement and hydrocarbon processing industries.  After completion of a profitability analysis, DSI determined that given the economic climate, the status of the industry and the poor financial results of the Debtors, the best course of action to maximize the recovery for the creditors was to cease operations and consummate an orderly liquidation process, including divestiture of business units on a going concern basis.  As part of this process, DSI worked with the insurance carriers with regard to NRMC’s potential asbestos liability.
