Case Narrative

Edgewater Medical Center, a 215-bed hospital with emergency room facilities, out-patient clinic, physical therapy services and doctors’ offices, was in receivership when an involuntary Chapter 7 bankruptcy was filed against it.  The Bankruptcy Court converted the case to one under Chapter 11 and the receiver retained control as custodian.  Edgewater’s secured lender retained DSI to assist the receiver in the wind down and liquidation of the hospital.  DSI managed the liquidation of the hospital’s medical equipment, non-medical equipment and furnishings, and managed the collection process for the accounts receivable due from private insurance and individuals.  DSI continued to manage the facility while the property was being marketed for sale and, during that time, maintained the medical records and provided patient access to them as required by Illinois law.
